Why It Matters
Playgrounds are about more than slides and swings. They are where kids discover the joy of movement, where grandparents play alongside their grandchildren, where families with children of different abilities finally find a place that welcomes all of them. Our community will have a gathering place they can be proud of, a place that will enrich the lives of our residents.
The Need
Families across Mequon and Thiensville are looking for a playground that truly works for everyone, children and adults of every age and ability.
- More grandparents are caring for grandchildren
- More kids are diagnosed with autism or sensory challenges
- Many families have a loved one who uses a wheel chair or walker and cannot engage with family members at our current playgrounds
- These families are our neighbors and friends, and they deserve a place to play, connect and belong
- Most of the equipment in our community parks is over 30 years old and not accessible to all
The Vision
The Rotary All-User Playground at Mequon Rotary Park will be a one-of-a-kind, fully inclusive community gathering place unlike anything our community has seen.
Every feature was chosen with every member of our community in mind:
- Swings, slides, and climbing structures for all ages
- Wheelchair-accessible swings and gliders
- Sensory and musical play features
- Quiet, shaded retreat spaces
- Exercise equipment for adults
- Safe, accessible entrances, pathways, and rest areas
The Impact
When this playground opens, it will belong to all of us.
How You Can Help
